Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Tara L. LaMontagne of Bradenton, FL has created a pair of prescription bifocals in which the distance portion of the lens is tinted for sunglass use, but the near portion of the lens remains clear.

After having cataract surgery and getting her astigmatism fixed, Tara could not see while driving. Everything was so bright, and she had to wear sunglasses. However, Tara could not see the instruments in her car with just her sunglasses alone. This meant she had to switch back and forth between her sunglasses and bifocals. It was very frustrating! Although there are prescription bifocals that are tinted to protect the eyes from bright sunlight, the tinting on the near portion of the lens makes viewing text in a book, on an outdoor restaurant menu, or a dashboard very difficult. Tara just knew there had to be a better way. In turn, she was inspired to develop the Sunglasses with Clear Bifocals! Now, they are ready for market!
