Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Nader Kassis of New Hyde Park, NY has created an outdoor trash can with a retractable attached lid.

Growing up, tasked with the chore of taking out the trash, Nader faced several challenges with traditional garbage cans. This included: lids getting lost or falling off, neighborhood animals rummaging through the trash, cans without lids collecting rainwater and attracting mosquitos, and the difficulty of trying to use one hand to hold the lid open and lifting a garbage bag into the can with the other.

His solution? A retractable lid. This simple but effective invention addresses all these issues, ensuring the lid stays attached, deters animals and mosquitoes, and allows for convenient one-handed disposal. The invention may also be provided with a hasp that can hold a padlock to protect personal information and dumping of trash by others. Additionally, the lower front opening allows for easier loading of trash bags into the garbage can. This will be a must-have for disabled users, those with bad backs, or seniors.
