Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Guy Barbeau of Canada has created a plastic body covering designed to protect individuals during hugging while there is a potential for the spread of illness or infectious disease.

The idea was born during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Guy was unable to hug or get close to his family members and friends who were not residing in his home. Not only does hugging put you in contact with the torso and arms of another person, but it also places the participants mouths and noses in close proximity to one another. If one person is sick, it is almost a sure thing that the other will become sick as well. As the pandemic stretched on, Guy just knew there had to be a solution. In turn, he was inspired to develop the Hugbag!

The invention is a protective body covering that is similar in appearance to a disposable rain poncho. It is made of light and easy-to-wear plastic that is recyclable. The bag completely covers the hands and arms, as well as the face - like a protective face shield. The invention would be worn by one or both individuals prior to a hug or greeting. Various sizes are possible to accommodate all users. The invention offers an extra level of protection beyond standard face masks, so important human contact can take place without the fear of transmitting germs, bacteria, viruses, or infectious disease.
