Story Behind the Invention

Inventor and pipefitter, Thomas C. Green of Manning, SC has created a new framing square with multiple benefits and numerous uses.

When installing pipe and electrical conduit, careful attention must be paid to slopes, offsets, and clearance from other equipment. A conventional bubble level and a tape measure are often needed. However, holding both items at the same time compromises accuracy and leads to costly mistakes. To make it easier after breaking his hand, Thomas wanted to find a way to perform the job without needing so many different tools. The Helpers Hand Pipe Square was his solution.

But how does it work? The right-angle portion of the framing square features a 360 bubble vial to make sure the tool is held flat and plum. A battery-powered laser measuring device slides along the longer side of the square. This ensures that any other section of pipe connected by a right angle 90 fitting is also level and square. The laser measure is capable of being attached to both sides of the invention, allowing it to work on both sides of the pipe or conduit.
