Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Cathy Samuel of Tuscaloosa, AL has created a new protective face mask that allows you to speak, eat, or drink while socially distant. The idea was born at work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cathy wanted to remove her mask to take a sip of soda, but there were a lot of people in the break room. She thought of cutting a hole in her mask in order to drink her soda, but Cathy knew she would need to have a covering over the hole to prevent contamination. With this in mind, she was inspired to develop Flapz! The invention is an easy-to-open and resealable mask that allows you to simply open a flap to answer a phone call, so the caller can actually understand you! Or, drink, eat, or even smoke while at a safe social distance without taking the mask off and potentially contaminating it.
