Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Kirklynn Samuel Lockhart has created the ultimate emergency escape ladder.

The idea was born after watching news coverage showing people jumping from burning buildings or collapsing buildings during earthquakes. The most compelling visual was two fire fighters standing on the ground looking up at a woman with her infant child in her arms while the building was on fire. The fire fighters could not get to her through the building. As a volunteer fire fighter for 16 years, Kirklynn knew there had to be a better solution. In turn, he was inspired to develop the Deployable Safety Ladder!

The invention is installed on upper floor windows during construction, or as part of a renovation. In an emergency, the release on the inside step is pulled, the hammer is removed, a window is broken if necessary, the screen is cut, and the safety glass on the deployable ladder is broken. The handle is then pulled to deploy the emergency ladder tangle-free. There is even a flip-up safety bar to help a person safely mount the ladder, a fireproof blanket to cover broken glass on the window ledge, and a strobe light with alarm to attract the attention of neighbors and first responders. The ladder can also be activated from the ground, allowing first responders to have immediate access to the upper levels of the home or building.
