Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Luke Steven Reid of Drumheller, AB has created a retractable adjustable awning that also performs the duties of a storm shutter for windows and doors.

Awnings are often used on homes and businesses to provide protection against direct sun glare as well as to provide an aesthetic decorative element. However, awnings are typically of a fixed nature, and greatly restrict outside vision access at all times whether it is sunny or not. Additionally, it is often necessary to remove awnings before storms arrive. Should the storm be of hurricane strength, many home and business owners protect the windows with plywood. This obviously takes a great deal of time, and can be difficult to do when the storm is fast approaching. Inventor Reid has created a means by which the functionality and usefulness of an awning can be maintained, and yet modified to become even more beneficial.

This clever new invention is an electrically operated awning structure. It deploys in seconds. The awning extends and lowers against a home or building to protect it. The device fits all windows and doors. It is ideal for coastal areas subject to hurricanes. The use of the Retractable Awning provides a means of covering, controlling, and protecting exterior openings on a house or building, in a manner which is quick, easy, and effective.
