Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Roland De Marcellus has developed a laser navigational tool that brilliantly illuminates un-lit channel markers up to four miles away on even the darkest night!
As a homeowner on the intracoastal waterway, De Marcellus had to run his boat slowly in the dark so he wouldnt hit any un-lit channel markers or run out of the channel if he could not locate the next marker in time. Since the coastguard only illuminates a marker every six miles, it is incredibly easy for those things to happen. De Marcellus just knew there had to be a solution.
At a gun store, he noticed they sold lasers for rifles, so he bought one and tested it on his boat out of curiosity. It was such a relief to be able to point it on the heading of his boat and see all the un-lit markers turning into a ball of green light. The green laser did not light up the red markers, however, so he had to mount a red and green laser in parallel. Not only did this make navigating the intracoastal waterway safer, it allowed him to run raster and read the marker numbers even at some distance away. This discovery led to his creation of the MARKER MATE Laser Navigational Instrument!
Unlike a search light that illuminates any distracting objects on the waters edge, the lasers only pick up channel markers. As an operator holds the unit and pans it across the heading of a boat, its lasers will automatically turn on. When released, they will turn off. A bubble level on top makes it easy to aim the beam horizontally. The device secures by suction cups to any smooth surface, or it can be permanently mounted. It is powered by two rechargeable batteries and comes with a battery charger.
