Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Kathryn Jennings of South Bend, IN has created an innovative new lap table that fits over the lap and around the stomach for a more secure and useable space.
Kathryns husband was a large man who was disabled for many years. During that time, he was given rolling tables and even small tables to put by the recliner he was always in. However, it was difficult getting food or drink from the tables to his mouth, as he had a large stomach and the items were always so far away. It only got worse as time went on. After watching her husband struggle for years dropping food and spilling drinks, Kathryn knew there had to be a better aid. In turn, she developed the Fitted Lap Table!
With this new table, there was less food on her husbands lap. He ate better because he was less frustrated. It also helped his dignity since there were less spills and clean up. The table was created to fit closer and more conveniently to ones body than a traditional tray. It fits over a users lap and curves around their tummy for a more secure and useable space, not only while eating, but while reading, writing, using a computer, and more. Adjustable legs steady the table to prevent tipping, spills, and waste. Users can simply slide the legs in or out, depending on their lap width, moving the invention into the perfect position for use while in bed, on the couch, or in a recliner. After use, the legs fold in for easy storage or transportation. Various widths and curve depths are possible to accommodate all users.
