Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Michael A. Davis of Canyon Lake, CA has developed two new products to keep ostomy patients free from adhesive-related problems like leaks and skin irritation.

An ostomy bag is needed after medical procedures like colostomies or ileostomies. Regrettably, patients are forced to spend hundreds of dollars monthly on the necessary ostomy equipment in order to keep them continent. Issues with skin integrity may arise from unexpected leaks of stool underneath the adhesive wafer, causing pain and skin damage.

Michael served in the US Navy where he was injured in the line of duty and suffered many injuries, one of which gave him his lifelong colostomy bag. Michael became a Paralympic athlete where he rides a tricycle. Michael realized the need for the modernization of ostomy bags and came up with this idea while in the hospital, over 11 years later perfecting the Permanent Ostomy Wafer to how it is now. Later the Permanent Ostomy Wafer Titanium came to fruition.

How does the Permanent Ostomy Wafer work? First, an encompassing stoma flange is surgically placed around the stoma. Then, a medical professional places a magnetic ring on the skin of the patient. Next, the medical professional secures the ring around the stoma using a sutured sheet of artificial skin. Finally, the patient places an ostomy bag containing a thin sheet of ferromagnetic metal onto the artificial skin. The magnetic force secures the bag in place - no adhesives required. With this invention, the patient is free from adhesive-related problems like leaks and skin irritation.

How does the Permanent Ostomy Wafer Titanium work? This is a new technique that allows ostomy bags to be attached without the issues currently affecting an ostomy patients quality of life. The invention is a metallic flange encased in a medical grade silicone elastomer. It is sutured onto the skin and attaches around the stoma to a medically implanted encompassing stoma flange. The outer stoma interface features a raised titanium dimple that is the main securing factor.

Both products will forever change the day-to-day life of an ostomy bag user. Want to learn more? Be the first to contact us NOW for additional information or for manufacturing, retail, wholesale, distribution, or licensing opportunities!
