Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Kelly J. Ellis of Oklahoma City, OK has created an outdoor sports helmet with specialized features to assist in the search and rescue of the wearer.

Rough terrain or vast wilderness areas are known to present some physical dangers. All too often, the news is filled with stories of individuals who have become lost while hiking, camping, hunting or fishing, and ultimately end up losing their lives. Unfortunately cell phones and radios typically do not work in these locations. Additionally, manhunts usually occupy a lot of time. These searches can only be conducted during the day, perhaps doubling the amount of time it will take to find someone. Inventor Ellis has created a means by which a person lost in a wilderness location can easily be found.

This clever new invention is a protective helmet with a full face shield. A weather band radio keeps users informed of changing weather conditions. A GPS system allows for the automatic transmission of coordinates by a two-way radio system. It allows for whistle, siren, or voice communication. It works in both day and night conditions. The use of the Multi-Functional Protective Helmet allows for the rapid location of lost individuals in wilderness areas, in a manner which is not only quick, easy, and effective, but simple, low cost, and reliable as well.
