Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Catherine Kimaryo of North Las Vegas, NV has created a new security system that disconnects electric power in the event of a break-in.

In response to escalating crime rates, Catherine invented GoDarkness, a security system designed to safeguard homes at night. Realizing that most crimes happen when it is dark, Catherine tested the concept by navigating her home with all the lights off. Despite knowing the layout of her house, she still found herself bumping into things, reinforcing her belief in the effectiveness of her invention. This innovative system will enhance home security and challenge the narrative that nightfall brings heightened vulnerability.

But how does it work? In the event of a break-in, GoDarkness plunges an intruder into total darkness, disorienting them and hindering their ability to navigate a home. The confusion caused by the darkness will also give a resident time to call law enforcement or take other steps to protect themselves, their family, and their belongings. Thrown off by the dark, an intruder is soon left with no choice but to leave the premises. Once the threat has passed, GoDarkness restores the power, returning safety and normalcy to the home.
