Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Douglas E. Andersen of Wellington, UT has created a steering wheel spinner that is incorporated within an outer steering wheel and capable of 360 rotation.

Vehicles such as trucks, tractors, and forklifts are frequently equipped with a spinner knob that is located on the radius of the steering wheel and can be gripped to allow for easier turning and steering of the vehicle in a rapid manner. While spinner knobs have worked well for decades, they are not without their issues. They can be difficult and uncomfortable to grip, especially in extreme weather conditions with or without wearing gloves. There is also the chance that a spinner knob will become caught in the drivers clothing, presenting a safety hazard to not only the driver of the equipped vehicle, but anyone who shares the road with them. As a truck driver, Douglas just knew there had to be a better way. In turn, he was inspired to develop the Wheel in a Wheel Spinner!

The invention is mounted into the main spoke of a steering wheel at the 8 oclock position. It takes the shape of a T-bar, so a driver can wrap their hand around it like the spoke of a steering wheel. However, instead of using their finger to spin the wheel at the spoke, a driver can simply grab the spoke, lift, and spin the wheel 360 without letting go of the spoke. This will give them total control under any circumstances, regardless of terrain or speed. The invention is never in the way and will not catch on clothing. It is reliable and ready to use in an instant.
