Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Jeffrey M. Dakin, a general contractor from Wichita, KS has created an apparatus that measures the tongue weight of a trailer being towed and digitally displays it on the interior of the tow vehicle.
As anyone who has ever towed a trailer can tell you, it is a trying and stressful experience. There are many factors to consider and remember even before the trailer begins to move. These include proper hitch hookup, trailer capacities, hitch capacities, electrical light hookups, brake hookups, and so forth. Once the vehicle begins to move, the driver must deal with increased reaction times, lane clearances, high winds, reduced gas mileage, and so forth. Another important towing parameter which must be considered is the tongue weight of the trailer. This is the weight of the trailer that is applied to the tow vehicle via the trailer tongue. As the trailer is loaded with items ahead of the axle, it provides a positive tongue weight. Items positioned behind the trailer axle serve to reduce the tongue weight. Tongue weights that are either too high or too low can lead to unstable towing, bad handling, or damage to the trailer or tow vehicle. In some cases, accidents can even result. Inventor Dakin has created a means by which the tongue weight of a towed trailer can be easily determined at all times.
This clever new invention provides a continuous display of weight to the tow vehicle driver. It ensures safe towing of a trailer. It allows a trailer to be properly loaded. Its weight sensor can be used with any type of receiver hitch. The invention is great for RVs, utility trailers, horse trailers, and construction trailers. The use of the Hitch Ball Weight Meter allows for the monitoring of trailer tongue weight in a manner which is not only quick, easy, and effective, but safe as well.
