Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Anthony Root of Persia, IA has developed an apparatus which allows for safe and effective de-leading methods.
Lead paint abatement is the process of safely reducing lead paint hazards and often requires the complete removal of lead paint, which can be very dangerous if done incorrectly. While the workers themselves can wear protective suits with self-contained breathing devices, the abatement activity typically produces airborne lead dust which can be transferred to other areas of the home resulting in an even greater danger. Most contractors construct a temporary enclosure around the items to be abated in order to prevent dust from escaping, but building the enclosure is often time-consuming and costly. Additionally, such enclosures can easily fail and expose an entire room which then must be decontaminated. Accordingly, there exists a need for a means by which temporary lead abatement enclosures can be easily constructed in a time-saving manner but yet provide a high degree of security to prevent the escape of lead dust. Inventor Root has created an environmentally-friendly temporary lead abatement enclosure which is easily constructed, secure, and saves time.
This clever new invention is constructed of PVC pipe and a clear plastic sheet which seals off an area to prevent lead dust from escaping. It also features a removable foot mat system which has adhesive to ensure no lead particles can be found on the soles of the workers shoes. Additionally, the invention can be easily disposed of or cleaned after use. The use of the Portable De-Leading Unit provides an easy and effective method to perform lead abatement activities, in addition to allowing for the meeting of all standards and regulations while providing a safe living environment for all.
