Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Joseph N. Frew, a chef from Reeds Spring, MO has created an apparatus to aid in the cleaning of a large quantity of potatoes in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional environment.

Potatoes are used for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. However, first, they must be rigorously cleaned as the first part of their preparation. Cleaning a few potatoes for dinner at home is not a big burden but it is a significant task for those who prepare many potatoes in a restaurant. A prep cook may spend hours cleaning hundreds of potatoes while hunched over a sink in a position that can cause pain in the lower back. Additionally, the labor associated with this cleaning drives up the cost of food for everyone.

One day, Inventor Frew was at work grinding hamburger and noticed a nearby prep cook was struggling while washing potatoes. He turned to his right, saw a vegetable slicer, and put the two together. Thats when his idea for The Spud Buddy was born.

This clever new invention is capable of cleaning 7 to 8 potatoes at one time. This saves time and frustration. It helps reduce ergonomic injuries often caused by users bending over sinks to manually clean potatoes. It is a simple and straightforward process. The device is easy to manufacture.
