Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Susan C. Macrina of Marcy, NY has created an innovative new way for those with limited fine motor and muscle control skills to create art independently.

Susan is a recreation specialist for a non-profit agency that offers services to adults and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Many of these day programs focus on art therapy. Susan has always felt that every person has an innate need to create and express themselves in an artistic way. However, she has noticed that many people have very limited movement of their hands, arms, and bodies. They want to paint on the canvas by themselves but struggle to do so. Susan just knew there had to be a way to provide them with that independence. In turn, she was inspired to develop The Picasso Without Limits Adaptive Brush Kit!

The invention lets those with limited skills hold a paint brush with their abilities; allowing them to create art by adapting to their restricted movement. The kit features brush holders with adaptive handles to help ones range of motion. This will allow them to paint independently or participate in art therapy projects. The handles simply adjust to a standing easel or tabletop setting.
