Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Louis A. Etienne of Loretto, TN has created a temporary door latching system for doors that must be secured before the permanent door.

Although temporary doors are often needed to protect certain rooms during construction, the process of installing them actually damages door jambs, leading to costly repairs and valuable construction time, all before the permanent door can be hung. As a carpenter working on many trim out projects, Louis realized re-work was driving up construction costs for both the contractor and building owner. He just knew there had to be a better way. In turn, he developed Temporary Door Latch Hardware!

While other methods have you drilling into the jamb to fasten a hasp, the invention works to protect the jamb, eliminating the need for re-work. The system includes a door plate and a jamb plate that can be affixed to the door plate. A hasp can then be mounted to the jamb plate to better secure the temporary door. With the jamb protected, workers will be able to save valuable time on a tight construction schedule. The invention also eliminates the need to purchase temporary door locks and presents a higher standard of product. The system can be used for right-hand or left-hand doors.
