Story Behind the Invention

Inventor George V. Proper of Kitchener, ON has created an apparatus to aid in the layout and construction of wood stud framing systems, railings, deck boards, and other systematically spaced construction material.

Wood framing comprises the vast majority of building construction endeavors for residential, commercial, and even industrial projects. The wood members, whether they are wall studs, roof trusses, or floor beams are typically placed at 16 or 24 centers, depending on the application and load. This placement is typically performed by careful measurement, marking, placement, and fastening before the whole process is repeated again for the next wood member. This of course leads to the magnification of any errors that are present. These same problems arise when spacing railing balusters, deck boards, and the like. Inventor Proper has created a means by which building material can be easily and consistently spaced, without these disadvantages.

This clever new invention is used in the construction of wood stud walls. It allows for accurate spacing of railing balusters and deck boards. It is for use with wall studs, trusses, floor beams, and the like. It saves time measuring and checking. Additional sizes are available for other uses and spacing. The use of the Workpiece Alignment and Positioning Device allows not only for the easy and cost-effective building of framed lumber construction projects, but also ensures that spacing between common types of building material is completely accurate as well.
