Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Daniel Fitchell of North Vancouver, BC has created a lid for a hand-held container with an integrated flow control means for liquid or powdered material.

Various hand-held containers are used to hold a wide variety of liquids and powdered materials. These product groups include food, beverage, industrial chemicals, agricultural products, lubricants, and more. During use or consumption, users must pour the product from the container into another container or vessel. To do so, one typically removes the lid and pours directly from the container. The pour is controlled solely by how far the container is tilted. When using containers with wide openings, the width of the pour results in a lack of control of not only the location of the pour, but the amount being released. To compensate, many rely on the use of funnels which complicate the process, take additional time, and result in more cleanup.

Inventor Fitchell was inspired to create the Lid with Sliding Opening after purchasing a bottle of window washer fluid for his car. As he was pouring it into the holding tank, the liquid got all over his engine and surrounding areas. This is when the idea for the lid was born.

This clever new invention lets users easily control the amount of material being poured from a container. It allows for one hand use. It reduces spills and cleanup. It wont accidentally come undone in a backpack or bag because of the way its been designed. The lid works with plastic and glass containers. It is easy to manufacture.
