Inventor Jean-Claude Chartrand of London, ON has created a retrofit kit for fluorescent troffers and strip lights to allow for the easy replacement of fluorescent lights with LED lamps/tubes.

Modern concerns over the limited supply of fossil fuels have generated a great deal of research in the area of alternative fuel and energy sources. One area that has received particular attention as of late is that of reduced energy illumination sources. Fluorescent lamp fixtures, or troffers or strip lights, have been the mainstay of lighting in offices, stores, schools, and similar locations for many years. While these fixtures are a big improvement over incandescent lamps of years ago, they cannot compete with the high efficiency of LED lighting. However, the cost and effort associated with complete light fixture replacement is daunting, forcing many to simply put up with the inefficiencies of fluorescent lamps. While there are some LED retrofit kits on the market, they are often difficult and time consuming to install and do not afford the user the ability to increase or decrease the number of light tubes. In turn, Inventor Chartrand was inspired to create a means by which the fluorescent lamps in existing fixtures can easily be upgraded to LED style lighting.
