Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Sam Billington of Gainesville, VA has created a cover for outlets with a closed front and open back to protect children from possible electrical shock.

Among the many dangers present in any home, the risks of injury or death caused by accidents involving electricity and electrical devices are among the most common. One way of protecting children against accidental contact with electrical receptacles is by the use of childproof plastic covers. However, these covers must be removed when an electrical device is plugged in. Inventor Billington has created a device to make outlets able to function, yet safe for small children, so they cannot remove cords or remove the cover from an outlet.

This clever new invention is for standard electrical outlets. The outlet is still usable with the device in place. A snap-on cover secures to a faceplate after a cord is plugged in. It is simple and foolproof. It saves lives. The use of the Electrical Outlet Cover protects children from possible electric shock while permitting the usage of outlets for everyday use.
