Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Lynn S. Huff of Las Vegas, NV has created an innovative new way to keep pets properly hydrated while on-the-go.
Animals are in need of hydration just as much as their owners. Water is always waiting at home, but what about while you are out and about? The idea for the invention was born after observing her dog on trips to the park. When the water sprinklers would come on, Lynns dog would start playing with them and putting its mouth over the sprinkler for a drink. This inspired Lynn to develop a water drinking device that could squirt water like a sprinkler.
The invention is worn on the back of the animal. When the dog needs a drink, a pet owner will pull out an adjustable straw from the backpack and bring it in front of the dogs mouth. At the end of the straw is a ball for the dog to chew. As the dog chews, water will begin to disperse into its mouth. Not only will this hydrate the dog, it also strengthens the dogs jaw muscles. Water flow will stop as soon as the dog finishes chewing. The straw can then be pushed back into the backpack until needed again. Various colors and sizes of backpacks are possible. A side pocket has even been incorporated for treats.
